Skiing in
Zermatt

Pass coverage matters: skiing in Zermatt and crossing to the Italian side are different options to consider when buying.

CHOOSE WITH CONTEXT

What is the mountain like?

It may suit your trip if…

  • Rail travel and a stay in a car-free village.
  • Learning in Sunnegga before exploring other sectors.

Before deciding

  • A Zermatt pass does not necessarily cover the Italian side.
  • Choosing accommodation without checking lift access can add travel each morning.

Getting started

A dedicated Beginner Ski Pass is available. Compare its included sectors with the general pass before choosing.

Exploring the mountain

The Zermatt pass covers Sunnegga–Rothorn, Gornergrat and Schwarzsee–Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Check international coverage if you want to cross into Italy.

A good way to organize your first day

Start with Sunnegga and Wolli’s Beginners Park if you are new to skiing. If you already ski, devote the day to one sector and learn the descent or return transport before considering the international crossing.

Open-data and archive maps do not show real-time opening status. Check the season on historical maps.

LIFT ACCESS

Which pass you need

Zermatt appears in our selection of Ikon destinations. The specific product, available days, and blackout dates affect coverage.

ikon

Up to 7 days subject to product terms. Access from November 1 to April 30. Do not assume the Italian side is included.

ikon base

Up to 5 days subject to product terms. Access from November 1 to April 30. No blackout dates according to the operator's FAQ: https://www.matterhornparadise.ch/de/buchen/faq

The comparison requires the same season, age, and dates. Check reservations, blackout dates, and shared allowances before buying. Estimated rates are not presented as quotes.

YOUR MOUNTAIN BASE

Where to stay

Compare the location with your school meeting point and the access you will use most. For learning in Sunnegga, prioritize an easy route to its funicular over a room with a view.

Before booking, check lift locations, the walking route with gear, transport frequency, and how to get back after closing. This entry does not yet have verified, recommended accommodation areas.

Compare the cost of your entire stay

Include all nights and rooms, taxes, parking, transfers, and cancellation. For families, provide children’s ages; a rate for two adults is not a budget for the whole group.
