Choose by park level and that day’s availability. LAAX labels Beginner and Whoop De Doo easy; Mammoth classifies Disco, Wonderland and Eagle Playgrounds as beginner areas. Being able to ski or ride a difficult piste does not establish ability on jumps or rails: a freestyle lesson helps define suitable progression.
Images from a major competition show only part of a destination. For a freestyle trip, finding an area where you can repeat, learn and rest matters more than booking beside the most famous jump. If the group has mixed abilities, also plan a day that works for those who will not use the park.
LAAX: five parks, different experiences
The official page advertises five snowparks. Beginner and Whoop De Doo are labelled easy; Ils Plauns, with rails, boxes and kicker lines, is medium. P60 includes a professional kicker line. NoName has a superpipe and minipipe. This describes the offering, not confirmation that every feature is built or open.
When comparing accommodation and lessons, ask which area your group will use and how to reach it from the base. A park’s name can remain while its layout changes, so a photo from another season is not enough to choose it.

Mammoth: identify the Unbound area that fits
Unbound presents Disco, Wonderland and Eagle Playgrounds as beginner areas; Forest Trail, reached from Unbound Express, Chair 6, as intermediate; and Main Park as expert. The same brand covers very different experiences: book your lesson or ask for guidance using the specific area’s name.
Park counters and promotional photographs are not a status report for your date. Check opening status, maintenance and event restrictions. If the planned park is unavailable, choose another suitable option with the instructor.

Progression that leaves room to learn
The National Ski Areas Association’s Park SMART guidance encourages starting with small features, assessing each attempt, looking before entering, respecting the space and other users, and recognising your limits. Applying it requires attention on site; reading a guide does not teach a manoeuvre.
Tell the instructor what you have actually practised, including your park experience. Agree on achievable goals for the day and room to stop. If you are watching, ask for an authorised access and viewing location: approaches and landing zones are active parts of the park.

Frequently asked questions
Is a beginner park a first skiing lesson?
Do not assume so. Beginner here describes freestyle terrain; confirm prerequisite skills and the right area to learn your sport with the school.
