Skiing in
Lake Louise

A mountain with several faces in the Canadian Rockies, with options for different abilities from many lifts. Staying here requires accommodation outside the resort itself.

CHOOSE WITH CONTEXT

What is the mountain like?

It may suit your trip if…

  • Groups seeking a range of ability levels in mountain scenery
  • Travelers comparing Lake Louise with a base in Banff

Before deciding

  • There is no slopeside accommodation: also arrange how you will get there each morning.
  • Summit Chair has no green descent; do not apply the easy-route rule to every lift.

Beginners

Start in the learning area and follow the green Easiest Way signs as you progress. Summit Chair is an important exception: it has no green run down.

Intermediates

The map covers Front Side, Larch and Back Bowls. Choose one area for each day and plan your return from Larch or the back side.

Advanced

The Back Bowls contain some of the most demanding terrain. The school offers programs for developing skills in trees, moguls and variable snow.

Visibility and navigation

The resort advises beginners and lower intermediates to avoid Top of the World terrain in poor visibility. On-snow signs take precedence over the digital map.

Season and conditions

Check the season dates and daily report: high-mountain terrain opens according to snow, wind and mountain operations.

A good way to organize your first day

Beginners: start in the learning area. To progress, look for green Easiest Way routes and avoid Summit Chair. Intermediates: choose Front Side or Larch according to the report; the more demanding bowls require experience and good navigation.

Where to stay

Lake Louise village reduces the distance compared with staying in Banff; Banff may suit you better if you want more town life. In either case, arrange transport and equipment collection before booking.

Include all nights and rooms, taxes, parking, transfers, and cancellation. For families, provide children’s ages; a rate for two adults is not a budget for the whole group.
