2026–27 opening dates: every mountain has its own calendar

Announced dates in North America, the Alps and Niseko, plus what remains unconfirmed for Argentina and Chile in 2027.

The essentials for your decision

The dates below are announced plans, reviewed on October 1, 2026. Opening day does not mean every lift will operate; 2027 operating dates for Catedral and Portillo still await verification.

When choosing a ski vacation, the calendar needs to match the mountain where you will actually ski. One pass may cover several sectors that open or close on different days. That affects where to stay and which connections you can use.

This selection lets you compare dates without treating them as a promise of available terrain. Future openings and closures depend on conditions and operating decisions. Check the announcement when booking and the official mountain report before heading out.

North America: November does not open every mountain

Vail Resorts announced November 13 for Vail, and November 20, 2026 for Park City and Whistler Blackcomb. The release does not give their closing dates, so these remain unconfirmed rather than being inferred from a pass validity period.

Lake Louise publishes a complete date range. Aspen Snowmass needs a closer look: Aspen Mountain and Snowmass start before Highlands and Buttermilk, and closing dates vary by mountain. The longest season in the group does not mean all four mountains are open throughout it.

The Alps: check the sector, then the connection

Val Thorens–Orelle announces a longer season than the wider Les 3 Vallées area. Ski Arlberg sectors also have different dates, and the operator warns that operations may be limited. Compare the map with the calendar, especially if your plan depends on covering the entire area.

Niseko: four areas and a separate night-skiing calendar

Niseko United announces the same starting date for all four areas, but different endings. For a spring visit, the sector matters as much as the date: the Annupuri or Grand Hirafu calendar does not extend Niseko Village operations.

Night skiing is planned from December 12, 2026 to March 22, 2027. That range does not mean every lift operates at night or guarantee All Mountain pass connections.

Argentina and Chile: 2026 is not a substitute for the 2027 calendar

Catedral reported opening on July 7, 2026 with snowmaking support and announced an extension through October 12. That is 2026 information: sales of 2027 resident passes do not confirm next season’s opening date.

Portillo’s Ski Weeks page is still labelled as the 2026 season and shows commercial weeks between June 20 and September 26. We do not treat that window as a record of actual operations or copy it into 2027. For both resorts, 2027 operating dates remain unconfirmed in this guide.

How to use these dates when booking

First identify the sectors your group needs: learning terrain, a park or a particular connection. Then check operations, pass coverage and accommodation change terms separately. A calendar helps rule out incompatible plans; the daily report tells you what is available that day.

Frequently asked questions

Does unconfirmed mean the resort will not open?

No. It means this review did not verify an official operating date for that season.

Can I assume the whole mountain opens on opening day?

No. Check the daily report for open lifts and trails, even if the announced date remains unchanged.
