Skiing in
Breckenridge

Five connected peaks and a town with a life of its own. Your choice of base matters as much as your accommodation: Peak 9 puts you closer to Main Street; Peak 8 brings together services and access to the high mountain.

CHOOSE WITH CONTEXT

What is the mountain like?

It may suit your trip if…

  • Groups who value town life and skiing
  • Progression from Peak 9 to marked runs and alpine terrain

Before deciding

  • Peak 7 has no beginner terrain: convenient accommodation there does not replace a learning base.
  • The upper areas of Peak 6 and Imperial require checking opening status, visibility and the return route.

First runs

Start on the Quicksilver conveyor lifts at Peak 9 or at Rip’s Ride on Peak 8. Peak 7 requires intermediate ability or above.

Intermediate level

Independence and Freedom on Peak 7, and Beaver Run or Mercury on Peak 9, let you link blue runs. Kensho opens up intermediate alpine terrain on Peak 6.

Advanced and expert

Peak 10 offers black runs; Imperial Bowl, Horseshoe Bowl and the E-Chair terrain require more technical skill. Hike-to areas and chutes are expert terrain.

Planning your day

Book your lesson at the base you will actually use. Check the status of the upper lifts before crossing from one peak to another.

Season and conditions

Check the season dates and daily report: high-mountain terrain opens according to snow, wind and mountain operations.

A good way to organize your first day

Beginners: Quicksilver and Peak 9’s learning areas, or Rip’s Ride on Peak 8. Intermediates: Beaver Run and Mercury before exploring Peak 7. Experts: consider Peak 10 or the high bowls only when open and conditions are favorable.

YOUR MOUNTAIN BASE

Where to stay

Peak 9 and its Village and Beaver Run bases make it easy to combine learning with proximity to downtown. Peak 8 can be convenient if your school is there; Peak 7 is better suited to those already linking runs.

Peak 9 and downtown

Prioritize this area to combine ski school, skiing and walks along Main Street. Check the actual distance to the lift in the official directory.

Compare the cost of your entire stay

Include all nights and rooms, taxes, parking, transfers, and cancellation. For families, provide children’s ages; a rate for two adults is not a budget for the whole group.

ANSWERS FOR PLANNING

Questions about Breckenridge

Is Peak 7 suitable for learning from scratch?

It is not the most straightforward choice: it has no beginner terrain. Coordinate accommodation, rental and school at Peak 8 or Peak 9.

Where should I stay to combine skiing and downtown?

The Peak 9 area makes that balance easier; check whether your property is close to Village or Beaver Run.

Should I explore all five peaks on the first day?

No. Start in the area suited to your ability and expand your route once you know the connections and return times.
