2027 snow events: what to watch, where and which dates remain open

A practical guide to X Games, the Freeride World Tour, FIS World Championships, Tomorrowland Winter and Snowbombing, with venues and open questions clearly identified.

The essentials for your decision

X Games, the FIS World Championships and both festivals have announced 2027 dates. The complete FWT Pro calendar was not verified; Val Thorens publishes a local window whose competition day depends on the weather.

A competition can be the focus of a trip or one outing during a ski week. Before choosing accommodation, decide what you want to see: alpine racing, freestyle tricks, freeride on a mountain face or music after skiing. These experiences do not all happen at the same venue or require the same ticket.

X Games: three stops and a club-based league

The first XGL winter season links Aspen, Calgary and Ruka. Alongside individual results, performances earn points for four clubs. The format adds a season-long race to an event you might previously have followed as a standalone weekend.

Aspen announces Superpipe, Big Air, Slopestyle and Knuckle Huck for both skiing and snowboarding. If a particular discipline interests you, wait for the detailed schedule before choosing your visit dates. An international broadcast announcement also does not confirm availability in Mexico.

FIS World Championships: locate your discipline before your hotel

Crans-Montana, Switzerland, hosts the Alpine World Championships from February 1 to 14, 2027. The programme includes eleven titles, with women’s downhill on February 6 and men’s downhill on February 7. These are World Championships, distinct from a World Cup stop.

The Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships are announced for March 6 to 21 in Montafon and Kühtai, Austria. Halfpipe will take place in Kühtai, with snowboard qualifying on March 6 and freeski qualifying on March 7. Choosing accommodation solely around the Montafon name could leave you far from your chosen event.

The published venue allocation places Big Air in Tschagguns; moguls and aerials in Golm; snowboard alpine in Gargellen; and cross and slopestyle in Silvretta Montafon. Use your discipline’s venue as the starting point for researching transfers and spectator access.

Freeride World Tour: a window is not a confirmed day

As of October 1, 2026, the reviewed Pro calendar still shows the 2026 season. We do not construct a complete 2027 tour from those dates. The Val Thorens tourism office does announce a local window of January 24 to 30, 2027, with the day selected according to conditions. This is a partial reference, not confirmation of the complete calendar.

It helps to distinguish categories: Pro is the top level; Challenger is the final qualifying step; Qualifier develops the pathway into the upper tiers; Junior covers youth categories. The Tour has already announced nine Region 1 qualifiers for Pro 2027, but an athlete list does not set venue dates.

The Junior/Qualifier season labelled 2027 runs from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027. That explains why events held in 2026 can carry that label. Check the category, the actual year and the event status before planning a trip.

Festivals: the week and the main-stage schedule are different

Tomorrowland Winter announces Alpe d’Huez from March 20 to 27, 2027, with admission restricted to ages 18 and over. MainStage opens Tuesday through Friday and stays closed Saturday through Monday. If that stage is your priority, choosing just any day in the advertised week is not enough.

The announcement sets seven-day package sales for October 3, 2026 at 15:00 CEST, and ticket sales for October 10 at 17:00 CEST. These are announced sale times, not guaranteed availability. Check each product’s inclusions; do not assume flights from Mexico are included.

Snowbombing announces its 27th edition in Mayrhofen, Austria, from April 5 to 10, 2027. The reviewed lineup includes Bicep Live and Fatboy Slim. Confirm the daily programme, tickets and transport before finalising your trip: festival dates alone do not tell you which slopes will be open.

Frequently asked questions

Are all dates final?

They are announcements reviewed on October 1, 2026. Reconfirm the programme and access with the organiser; for freeride, distinguish the weather window from the chosen day.
