CHOOSE WITH CONTEXT

What is the mountain like?

It may suit your trip if…

  • Intermediates who enjoy long, varied routes
  • Groups combining town life, ski school and bowls

Before deciding

  • The Back Bowls are not always groomed runs: choose according to the day’s report.
  • Lifts in distant areas may close before those at the base; plan your return from Blue Sky Basin.

Beginners

From Lionshead, Eagle Bahn takes you to the Little Eagle terrain. Confirm your ski school meeting base before booking.

Intermediates

Game Creek offers variety; in China Bowl, Poppyfields East and West are groomed intermediate options when confirmed by the report.

Experts

The Back Bowls combine open slopes and demanding areas. Blue Sky Basin adds terrain such as Lover’s Leap; its routes vary in difficulty.

Returning to base

Check closing times for the Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin lifts. Allow plenty of time to return, especially from the more distant areas.

Season and conditions

Check the season dates and daily report: high-mountain terrain opens according to snow, wind and mountain operations.

A good way to organize your first day

Beginners can organize their day around Little Eagle or their school. Intermediates will find variety in Game Creek and, if groomed, Poppyfields East and West. Save the more demanding bowls and Lover’s Leap for suitable technique and conditions.

Open-data and archive maps do not show real-time opening status. Check the season on historical maps.

How to get to Vail

Denver and Eagle are arrival alternatives: compare the flight and full transfer to Vail Village, Lionshead or Golden Peak. Naming the base helps avoid an additional connection with equipment and children.

YOUR MOUNTAIN BASE

Where to stay

Vail Village offers Gondola One access; Lionshead offers Eagle Bahn towards Little Eagle. Golden Peak is practical when the school meets there. Choose according to your morning activity and use the bus between bases.

Vail Village

A central base with Gondola One and services; a good choice if you want to go for a walk after skiing.

Lionshead and Golden Peak

Lionshead provides access to Eagle Bahn; Golden Peak is especially useful for ski school. Village buses connect the bases.

Compare the cost of your entire stay

Include all nights and rooms, taxes, parking, transfers, and cancellation. For families, provide children’s ages; a rate for two adults is not a budget for the whole group.

ANSWERS FOR PLANNING

Questions about Vail

Which of the three bases is best for a lesson?

The one listed in your booking. Golden Peak, Lionshead and Vail Village are different meeting points.

Can an intermediate explore China Bowl?

Poppyfields East and West may be options depending on grooming and conditions. Confirm the whole route; do not infer the difficulty of the entire bowl from those runs.

Do we walk between Vail Village and Lionshead with equipment?

Transport connects the bases. Check the stop closest to your accommodation to simplify the group’s travel.
